MEET OUR EDUCATIONAL BIRDS
Get to know the birds we work with for educational purposes! Each of them have a unique story that you will feel close to. Learn about who they are, they’re species and their role into the educational program.
ATLAS - The Harris Hawk
Atlas is the most affectionate Harris Hawk in the educational program and is currently working at Parc Safari. He is suited for educational program with young audiences. The young male will enlighten your day.
KENYA - The RedTailed Hawk
Kenya is a 8 year old Redtailed hawk. Her previous owner had this girl over 5 years of successful hunting. We will keep using her hunting skills as much as she likes while doing education with people and teach them more about Redtailed hawks.
ASTRID - The Ferruginous Hawk
Astrid, one of our educational birds here at Northern Wings, is the largest hawk in south and north America. We like to demonstrate her size and flight compared to the rest of our birds. Weighing 4lb, it's the closest you'll ever be to a bald eagle weighing 7 to 15 lbs
ARYA - The American Kestrel
Arya is amongts one of the smallest birds in the falcon's family and is part of the educational program. Being the smallest falcon species, don't be fooled by her size, these birds are known for being tough! Arya however, is surprisingly quite the shy Kestrel.
STORM - The GyrSaker Falcon
Storm is the second largest falcon we have the chance to work with. He shows his flying skills best when he's surrounded by open fields. He is a very shy bird and it takes him a long time to trust a new face. But once he trusts you, nothing will change his mind.
KHALEESI - The Harris Hawk
Khaleesi was once used as a breeding bird. She has recently been taken into our educational program and does wonderful with socializing towards people and animals around her. We hope that she continues to grow and eventually have a bigger part in our programs.
DROGO - The Harris Hawk
Drogo was once used as a breeding bird with Khaleesi. After hitting 7 years old, his interest towards it stopped. We took him in and started his training as an educational bird. Ever since, he has been doing amazing and even tends to sleep on the job.
PIPLUP - The American Kestrel
Piplup is one of our youngest, and our smallest falcon at the centre. Measuring only
8 inches, her wins it all with his adorable micro size. He usually loves to pare up with Arya at events or during regular contract and will do anything to protect her.
KASS - The Peregrine Falcon
Kass is a 3 years old male Peregrine falcon and our soon to be newest member on the educational team. He is a very shy bird but will get along with others in time. We are all excited to start working with him and get to know him better.
PIPER - The Barn Owl
Piper is the first Barn owl used in our educational program. She has a wild temper but we do our best to train and socialize her, since owls take longer to adjust to there surroundings. We are slowly working with her with a positive reinforcement to avoid stress.
